Subject: [sla-governance] Governing Documents - Comment deadline fast
approaching.

We had a flurry of discussion when the Governing Document revisions were
first posted, but it has been very quite since that time.

This is to remind you that any suggestions for changing the proposed
Chapter and Division Governing Documents (draft 2) need to be incorporated
by 12 Noon, Monday, May 5th. This document must be finalized by the end of
this day to be submitted in time for the Board Document deadline.

The next steps include:

* The Leadership to read the proposed documents (version 2) prior to the
Tuesday, June 10th, Cabinet meetings at the Annual Conference.

* Chapter and Division Cabinets will vote separately, to approve or not
approve, their respective documents.

* If approved by the Cabinets, the documents will be presented to the
2003/2004 Board of Directors at the Thursday June 12th, meeting, for their
approval.

* If approved by the Board, Governing Documents will become effective
immediately (well, maybe more like July 1st) and will replace all existing
unit bylaws.

* SLA headquarters will provide each unit leader with a paper copy of their
units new governing document (including appropriate Division scope and/or
Chapter geographic scope) to be signed and dated by the current
Chair/President and to then forwarded to the SLA Bylaws Committee for final
signatures by a specified date.

* If a unit would like to insert additional requirements to their unit's
document, beyond the minimum specified, then unit would then begin the
formal process to amend their documents.

* Work on redrafting the Recommended Practices documents will continue
throughout the Governing Document process.

Thank you in advance for your continued feedback!
